Our empire is weakening! Luckily our Roman legions are heading home to fight the Germanic invaders. When questioned, a citizen states, "I fear for England. So much is happening. Roman culture is disappearing, the empire is falling. Our Roman legions are our last hope." Finally, in the early A.D 400s, the Romans left our home!
" that's one less thing to worry about!" Says another citizen. Oh no! Not again! Now the Angles and Saxons are attacking! Stay out of the streets everyone! Men and boys should be ready to go to war." I wish everything bad could be over," says a seven year old girl.
Oh great, now we're being kicked out of our homes!? " I have been living here my whole life," an eighty year old says. " so have my parents, my parents parents, and my parents parents parents. Now they're telling me I can't live here anymore?"
Like this citizen, most of us are outraged, but others think of the situation as a start of a new life. We are all in shock, but there is nothing we can do.
"Us Celts shouldn't be pushed around like this." Says one young man. Now we are all traveling quickly.
" We're going north to the mountains!" a young family chorused in unison.
"We're going to go west far away from here." Another family says. Other families are going to Ireland. "We have relatives in Ireland." A mother of three sons says. "We don't see them often, but I think that will change." Now us Celts are all scattered. Maybe someday we can all reunite and take back England.
When questioned to recall all that happened a woman says," It was horrible! At first, they just raided the coastlines. That itself was awful enough, but then they started taking over the land and establishing settlements. Finally, they just decided to get rid of us and forced us out of our homes!"
On the bright side, we aren't the only ones to be pushed aside. And who knows, maybe we will enjoy wherever we are going better than where we were. Also, the Anglo-Saxon rule has to come to an end someday. The Saxons have influenced our language, culture, and politics, but we will always include Roman cultures. They have established shrines and turned our land into theirs. They have built up borders to keep things in and out. Despite all of this, it is still our land, and our home.
